Surgeon Directed Ultrasound

Surgeon Directed Ultrasound

Surgeon directed ultrasound performed at Ear Nose & Throat Specialists

This is a new area of surgical care in the United States, but has been used by surgeons in Europe and elsewhere for years. Traditionally radiologists and their technicians have performed ultrasound examinations of the thyroid gland. They are well trained in interpreting images but do not have much experience in managing the diseases which required the test.

Recent studies have shown that when surgeons perform the examination they are able to find clinically useful information and can expand the role of ultrasound, thus possibly reducing the need for tests such as CAT scans or MRI.

Our physicians have the capability to perform ultrasound examinations and biopsies of the neck and thyroid gland.
